Choosing a Wrap Company Is About a Lot More Than Price
What nearly 20 years in the wrap industry has taught us about materials, installation, technology—and choosing the right company for the job.
The vehicle wrap industry looks very different today than it did when WrapJax opened its doors in 2008.
Materials have improved. Printers have improved. Installation techniques have evolved. Paint protection films have become increasingly sophisticated. Customers have access to thousands of colors, finishes and specialty products that simply didn't exist when we started.
And now artificial intelligence is beginning to change the creative process itself.
But despite all of that progress, one thing hasn't changed:
Who installs your wrap matters just as much as what gets installed.
Whether you're spending thousands of dollars transforming your personal vehicle, branding a fleet of service trucks, wrapping a boat, protecting a new car with PPF or completely changing the appearance of a commercial space, choosing a wrap company deserves more consideration than simply comparing prices.
After nearly two decades in this business, we've learned there are some very important questions customers should ask before making that decision.
Experience Isn't Just a Number
Years in business matter—but not simply because longevity sounds impressive.
Experience means having seen what happens to different materials after one year, three years or five years in the real world. It means understanding how films react to different paints, plastics, curves, climates and installation environments.
It means knowing which techniques worked ten years ago but shouldn't necessarily be used today.
At WrapJax, we've spent nearly 20 years watching this industry evolve firsthand. During that time, we've continually researched new materials, evaluated emerging technologies, refined installation techniques and worked alongside manufacturers—including opportunities to test products before they reach the broader market.
That kind of experience creates something difficult to duplicate: perspective.
A good wrap company shouldn't simply know how to install today's product. It should understand why that product is being used, how it is likely to perform and what alternatives might be better for the customer's particular application.
Look Beyond the Portfolio
Beautiful photographs are important. They're also only part of the story.
When evaluating a wrap company, look deeper.
How long have they been operating? What do their customers say about them? Do they have a substantial history of Google reviews? Do their installers hold recognized training or certifications from manufacturers such as 3M, Avery Dennison or other major industry suppliers? Are they properly insured?
Then consider something customers sometimes overlook:
What does the actual facility look like?
Visit it.
A professional installation environment should look professional. Is the shop clean? Organized? Well lit? Is there adequate room for vehicles? Are materials being handled properly? Does the operation feel established and accountable?
If you're trusting someone with a $50,000, $100,000 or even more expensive vehicle, seeing where the work will actually happen can tell you quite a bit.
At WrapJax, we encourage customers to visit our facilities, meet our team, see materials in person and understand the process before making a decision.
We believe transparency should start before the sale—not after it.
The Lowest Quote Can Become the Most Expensive Quote
There's an old expression that gets repeated constantly in our industry:
You get what you pay for.
It's a cliché because unfortunately, it is often true.
We regularly encounter customers who initially selected another provider primarily because of price. Sometimes everything works out fine. Other times, they arrive at our shop looking for help.
Edges may be lifting. Panels may have been poorly installed. Seams may be unnecessarily visible. Graphics may be misaligned. The wrong material may have been selected. Paint or trim may have been damaged. Or the finished product simply doesn't resemble what the customer believed they were purchasing.
The installation problem can actually become secondary to a much larger problem:
The original installer stops answering the phone.
Now the customer isn't merely disappointed. They may have lost thousands of dollars and still need to pay someone else to remove, repair or completely redo the project.
That's why accountability should be part of the buying decision.
Ask what happens if something goes wrong.
Who stands behind the installation? Is there a written warranty? Is there an established company you can call six months from now? A year from now? Will someone actually be there to help?
Price matters. It just shouldn't be the only thing that matters.
The Relationship Shouldn't End When You Pick Up the Vehicle
One of the principles we've become increasingly passionate about at WrapJax is that completing the transaction shouldn't mean completing the relationship.
We want customers to know where to come when they have a question about caring for their wrap. We want to help if something gets damaged. We want fleet customers to be able to reproduce graphics consistently as vehicles are added or replaced. We want personal-vehicle customers to come back when they're ready for something different.
That philosophy has shaped how we approach service, warranties, customer rewards and ongoing communication.
The wrap itself may be temporary.
The relationship shouldn't have to be.
Getting More Value Doesn't Have to Mean Buying the Cheapest Wrap
There's another side to the price conversation that we think is important.
Choosing an experienced, established wrap company doesn't mean customers shouldn't look for ways to save money or get more value from their purchase. We think they absolutely should.
We've simply taken a different approach to it.
Rather than competing by cutting corners on materials, installation or service, WrapJax has developed programs designed to give customers additional value without asking them to sacrifice the quality of the project they're purchasing.
One example is JaxCash Rewards, which allows customers to earn 10% back from qualifying purchases to use toward future WrapJax products and services. Spend $3,700 on a qualifying project, for example, and that's $370 in JaxCash available for something down the road. It can even be shared with a friend or family member, and JaxCash rewards don't expire.
Throughout the year, we also make promotional coupons available, including offers such as $50 off a purchase of $500 or more and $100 off a purchase of $1,000 or more. Those savings can make a meaningful difference, particularly when they're combined with other eligible WrapJax programs.
Then there's our Pick 5 Complimentary Upgrades program.
For every $1,000 spent on a qualifying purchase, customers can select a complimentary protection upgrade valued at $149 or more. Spend enough to earn another? Pick another. Depending on the purchase, customers may ultimately earn several—or even all five.
The available upgrades include practical protection in areas vehicles commonly experience everyday wear: headlight PPF, A-pillar protection, door-sill PPF, rear cargo-area protection and door-edge protection.
And we intentionally made the program flexible. An earned upgrade doesn't necessarily have to go onto the vehicle being wrapped. Customers can use it on another vehicle in their household or even share it with a friend or family member.
Certain restrictions and promotional periods apply, of course, so customers should always ask their WrapJax representative about current offers and eligibility.
But the larger point isn't really about a $50 coupon or a complimentary piece of PPF.
It's about value.
We don't believe saving money should require choosing lesser materials, less experienced installers or a company that may not be there when you need them later.
Sometimes the better question isn't:
“Who gave me the cheapest quote?”
It's:
“Where am I getting the most for the money I'm already spending?”
Those can be two very different answers.
Not Everything We Wrap Has Four Wheels
Vehicle wraps may be what most people associate with WrapJax, but they're only part of what we do.
We've wrapped everything from everyday commuter vehicles to exotic cars, commercial vans, box trucks, trailers, RVs and large fleets.
We're also well known for boat wraps and marine applications ranging from smaller recreational boats to major yachts. Our experience has even taken our team overseas to Europe to participate in interior and exterior wrapping projects involving custom yachts valued well into nine figures.
And sometimes there isn't a vehicle involved at all.
We've wrapped windows, storefronts, interior walls, exterior architectural surfaces, offices, retail environments, appliances and other unconventional surfaces.
Aircraft? Helicopters? Specialty equipment?
Those can be wrapped too.
One of the things that makes this industry fascinating is that once you understand materials, adhesives, surfaces, printing and installation, the question often changes from "Can that be wrapped?" to "What's the right material and process to wrap it correctly?"
AI Is Changing What Happens Before the First Piece of Vinyl Is Installed
Some of the biggest changes happening in our industry today aren't happening inside the installation bay.
They're happening on the screen.
Artificial intelligence has radically expanded what customers can do during the earliest stages of the creative process.
Someone considering a personal color change can visualize ideas that might previously have been difficult to communicate. A business owner can explore branding concepts on a vehicle before committing to a direction. A fleet manager can begin thinking about how an identity might translate across several completely different vehicle types.
We don't see AI replacing professional designers or experienced installers.
We see it expanding the conversation between them and the customer.
That distinction is important.
AI can generate an incredible concept, but it doesn't necessarily understand door handles, body lines, compound curves, seams, material limitations, print production, installation strategy or whether something shown beautifully on a screen can actually be reproduced on a physical vehicle.
That's where experience still matters enormously.
Giving Customers a Bigger Role in the Creative Process
Our interest in AI ultimately led us to develop new ways for customers to participate more directly in that process.
Through WrapJax.ai, customers can bring AI-generated ideas and concepts into the conversation rather than struggling to explain an idea they can already visualize.
For commercial customers, Fleetwraps.ai extends that thinking into the world of fleet branding, where the objectives are often very different. A commercial wrap needs to do more than look good. It needs to communicate quickly, reproduce consistently and work across vehicles that may vary dramatically in size and shape.
These platforms are part of a larger belief we have about where our industry is headed.
Technology shouldn't create more distance between the customer and the wrap company.
It should bring them closer together.
The customer's imagination, AI-assisted visualization, professional graphic design, modern printing technology and skilled installation can now become parts of the same creative workflow.
That's an exciting change.
Materials Matter. Research Matters More.
There is no single "best" wrap material for every application.
A material that's excellent for one vehicle or environment might not be the best choice for another.
That's why we continually evaluate films, adhesives, laminates, paint protection products, printing technology and installation techniques.
Manufacturers continue to introduce new products at an extraordinary pace. Colors change. Adhesive technology changes. PPF capabilities change. Printable films improve. Specialty finishes emerge.
Being involved with manufacturers and testing new products gives our team an opportunity to understand those changes before simply recommending something because it's new.
Innovation isn't about chasing every new product.
It's about knowing which innovations actually make the customer's experience better.
Your Wrap Company Should Be Able to Grow With You
This becomes particularly important for commercial customers.
The contractor wrapping one truck today may have five trucks three years from now.
Five may become twenty.
A regional business may eventually have vehicles operating throughout Western Washington—or beyond it.
That creates requirements that don't always exist on the first vehicle: artwork management, color consistency, vehicle templates, production standards, installation scheduling, repairs, replacement graphics and maintaining a recognizable brand across completely different vehicle platforms.
Choosing the right partner early can eliminate a tremendous amount of friction later.
The company wrapping vehicle number one should be capable of supporting vehicle number fifty.
Local Matters Too
Having an established physical footprint provides another layer of accountability.
With WrapJax locations serving Western Washington, our reach allows us to support customers throughout the greater Puget Sound region—from Centralia north through Tacoma and Seattle to Everett and Bellingham, including Bellevue, the Eastside, Lynnwood, Kitsap County and communities throughout the surrounding area.
That matters when a customer needs help after installation.
It matters even more when a commercial customer has vehicles operating throughout the region and needs a wrap partner capable of supporting them as their business grows.
Before You Choose a Wrap Company, Ask Better Questions
Instead of asking only, "How much does a wrap cost?", consider asking:
How long have you been in business?
Can I visit your facility?
Who will actually install my project?
What manufacturer training or certifications does your team have?
What materials are you recommending, and why?
Are you properly insured?
What warranty do you provide?
What happens if there's a problem six months from now?
Can you reproduce my graphics if I add another vehicle?
Can you help me maintain or repair the wrap?
Do you keep up with new materials and installation technology?
What do your customers consistently say about you?
What additional value, rewards or incentives do you provide?
And most importantly: Will you still be there after I've paid the invoice?
Those questions reveal far more about a company than a price quote ever will.
Nearly 20 Years—and We're Still Learning
WrapJax was founded in 2008, and one of the reasons we remain passionate about this industry is that it refuses to stand still.
New materials keep appearing.
Installation techniques keep improving.
Printing technology keeps advancing.
Paint protection films keep evolving.
AI is transforming the creative process.
And customers continue finding completely new things they want us to wrap.
After nearly two decades, we don't believe experience means you've learned everything there is to know.
We think it means you've learned how important it is to never stop learning.
That's the standard we continue trying to bring to every WrapJax project—whether it's one personal vehicle, a growing commercial fleet, a boat, a storefront, a wall, an appliance, a yacht or something nobody has asked us to wrap yet.
Because ultimately, you're not just buying vinyl, PPF, ink or installation labor.
You're choosing the people you're trusting to put it all together.
And that may be the most important decision in the entire project.
